I love doing fun little experiments with my oldest that help him learn. Today was a day where I wasn't feeling the greatest and my kids had just been so good at keeping themselves entertained so while my little one was napping I wanted to do something a little special with my oldest. SO I went seeking on Pinterest :)
I found this fun little idea over at Mom to 2 Posh Lil Divas. So simple and lots of fun for the kiddos. All you need is baking soda, vinegar, an empty water bottle , a balloon and a funnel.
First take the funnel and fill the balloon with baking soda, just about 1/2 way
Then clean off the funnel and use it to fill your bottle with vinegar about 1/3 of the way
Then place your balloon over the water bottle, be careful that the baking soda does not fall into the bottle yet ;-) Then when your ready with your little one, lift the balloon so the baking soda falls into the bottle and watch the balloon fill :) (I recommend doing this over a sink, we didnt the first time and there was a little mess)
The balloon will get much bigger than our video shows, my recorder just decided to randomly stop.
Be prepared to do this more than once, my son loved it the first time we did it and asked to do it again! SO we did, his excitement wasn't the same ....I guess because he knew what was coming, but he still loved it and is wanting to do it again...I need more vinegar :)
Make sure to use this chance to explain to your kiddos that the baking soda and vinegar create an acid based reaction which makes a gas -carbon dioxide which then expands to fill the balloon :)

This is so cute!!
