So we have been in Maine for the past week or so. About a yr ago Isaac's grandfather became very ill and he passed away last Tuesday so we went up for the funeral and a visit with the family. I didnt take the time everyday to write up my GST's but these are a few from our week there.
1) a safe travel to Maine
2) tomato basil wraps
3)being with family during hard times
4) the life of Elwood Cooley, he was such an amazing man, a man who defined love with everything he did!!
5) the promise of heaven and knowing that we will see our loved one's who have accepted Christ and that Elwood is one of those loved ones
6) catching up with some of Isaac's cousins
7) some teens from the church being willing to watch the kids during the funeral so Becky & I could be there with our hubby's
8) a good funeral service, Luke getting up to say some words, making the gospel clear to everyone and remembering the wonderful life that Elwood lived.... his love of ice cream :), his love for his wife they had been married 62 yrs when he passed and they truly loved each other with everything they had, he was just this man who when you met him you instantly loved him. I wish I could have known him longer than the 7 yrs I did. I pray that we will always remember his example of love and live it out in our life. I can honestly say I have never met a man like him.
9)being able to sleep in a couple mornings while Aaron played with his cousins and grandparents
10) coffee!! and lots of it drank while playing hrs of board games
11) playing the Settlers of Catan (Cities and Knights) we played other games too, but you can be guaranteed that everytime we go to Maine we learn a new game and Cities and Knights was it this time
12) a trip to Renny's with Becky
13) taking Jordan (Becky and Luke's daughter who is almost 3 to the bathroom, this is why I will never forget this......... so she tells me she has to pee. I take her in and go to put her on the potty and she says "wait, Grammie puts this in the potty" and points to Comet , I said "before or after you pee" (after made sense, but before didnt really) she says "before" so I said "ok" and sprinkled a little in... she said "Grammie puts more, enough to make bubbles!" ...... so I put a little more in then she says "then Grammie sprays this, to make it smell like Christmas" and points to the Glade. So I spray some glade, then she looks at me and says "now it (pointing to the toilet water) will turn green when I pee" she pees and I go to wipe her and she says "wait, Grammie puts vaseline on the toilet paper!" so at the end of our 15 min adventure in the bathroom I go tell Becky and she says "no wonder she wants to go to the bathroom so much, Grammie makes it like an amusement park!!!" we go talk to Lorna and she said "I knew it would get back to me!!!"........ busted, but hilarious!
14) cuddling on the couch and watching "Pride and Prejudice" with Isaac
15) the Kennebunk house that Isaac's aunt and uncle own, its like their vacation home and its 3 hrs from Isaac's parents so on the way to Maine we stopped there and stayed the night and on the way home we hit a really bad snowstorm and after sliding and being thankful no cars happened to be around at the time we stopped there for about 5 hrs to wait for the snow to stop. It was a nice little break, we ate breakfast, drank coffee, his aunt and uncle were actually there so we visited, played Apples to Apples and then isaac, noah, ruth and I played one last game of Cities and Knights and i won!!!!! :)
16) a safe trip home , we left Isaac's parents at 5:30 am and got home at 1:30 am, not too bad considering the snow delay
17) sleeping in our bed!!!!!
I know there are probably a lot of things I am leaving out, but it was a good little break and an amazing life was celebrated!
